No "Midas Touch" Here...

Item:
How to turn $1210.50 into $126.00
in 5 Months.
Buy CAGTF

My folly of self-managed accounts is that  I like to "Play" (Trade, sometimes with no apparent reasoning).  And, all in all, I have done well; beyond expectations
Then there's the "spare change" trade.  When "Spare Change" collects in the 7 active accounts I have ($32 here, $120 there, $6 elsewhere); I'll consolidate and make a Cowboy Trade.  Since it's money left over from trades and I don't like cash in my accounts (that's what bank transfers are for), it's considered "found money", I have little respect for it.  Sometimes, I'll pick, say, the worst performing stock in all Indices (down 17% or so) and Buy (then Sell in the next few days when the Panic is over).
On this occasion, it far more risky than a normal Cowboy Trade.  If I was ever going to throw money away, I chose the PERFECT Position:
Way back in October, CAGTF crossed my path.  I can't even remember the lead, but I thought this throw of the dice would pay off.  On principle, if a cowboy is down 20%, it's sold and I move on.  Something about CAGTF has prevented me from acting (charts of 52-week High?).  It's sits in a Scottrade Account all by itself, having transfered other positions out.  It's like some Crown Jewel made of Paste or The Strange Uncle No One In The Family Talks About.
Hope must be springing eternal since I refuse to give up on it, but it has a D.N.R (Do Not Resuscitate) Order on it.

Witnessing Market History...

Running charts is one of those rote moves we make on every research entry.  It's "amusing" to notice what you'll find on a 1yr. Chart over the next couple weeks; that Big Valley at the beginning.
The frequency of a Market Event like this is about as rare as Haley's Comet, so observe it while you can.

And don't forget to catch Haley's comet [without me] in 2061.

Homework Week-End...

These are the Cos. we're considering for Next Week:

ABAT - ATAX - BGH - BKCC - BKPG.OB
EDD - FLO - FMIOX - IGD - IID
KSP - MLC

TGIC.OB : This is a staple in our "Cowboy" Trades.  Right now, it's at .28, and it has been a good performer in this range as a 10-15% gain.  Put an auto-sell on it and let it ride.  Recently "demoted" to OTC, so play may not be as stable.  We'll see.

My Answer to "E-Mail Overload"...

A couple of you have written telling me as to how loaded your e-mails are when you go in.  Between Alerts and Newsletters, it doesn't take much to have a page or two of incoming investment info.  More on "Too Much Information", at a later date.

The simple solution is to open an e-mail account dedicated to your Investment Experience.  The BEST Site for this Windows Live Hotmail (and it's Free!).  The good thing about opening an e-mail account with Live - it's indepenent of whatever carrier or browser you use.
After you create your new address, use it only for investment purposes.  This has a great psychological benefit: you'll be in the right mindset to read the info when you enter.  You'll know business is what you'll be doing and be ready for that topic.  You won't be distracted by looking at those adorable baby pics your sister just sent you and go to the next entry to read advice on your investments.
Save your personal e-mail adresses for having "fun thoughts" with friends and family.

I've a friend who has a different e-mail addresses (14) for each "group" of his friends and family.   He prioritizes which address to open to match his moods.  Even I (a "Prince of Oganization") find that a bit obsessive, but DO have a dedicated address for your investing.

Add these to your watchlist for 2010.

Playing The Game...

There are Portfolios which need the management of a Full-Service Broker.  My mother, for example, may dabble in Discount Investing but her major ports are under the "watchful" eye of a Good Broker.
Our Clique doesn't Play the Game with that sort of Referee, however.  The whole idea behind what we started was to Play; Investment and The Market being the Game.  If your desktop and favorites bar has shortcuts to vital Investment Links, you are doing your job as an Independent Investor.  As for the time to do this; you're already making it or you wouldn't be here.
I know, from reading comments, that my blog is not the only stopover on your quest for investment knowledge.  I'm known to say, "Out of the mouths of Babes and Fools", but tidbits of knowledge will help you in your Investment Experience.
In short, and needless to say;
RESEARCH

(I'm too old to be a babe...)

"Uncle Doug" is back... (never call me "Doug").

I'm going to be active with this Blog, again.  Thanks to my "POSTees" for your continued patronage.  With Clique Business running smoothly, and with the permissions of the DaTra Group (The Clique), I will be giving my (hopefully, helpful) Market Strategies on a more regular basis.

Some of you have asked for Research Tools.  I'll give you a couple less-proprietory leads.  Here are a couple+ to get you started:

Personally, along with the Internet Advisories, I'm reading the Wall Street Journal (print edition) by 3:30 in the morning.  Get subsciptions to financial papers and mags.  Nothing will take the place of your due diligence.

Further entries will be listed on the Links Section
of this blog.

Our's...

Strategy:
1) Buy, 2) Take Profits (or SELL),
3) Diversify, 4) HOLD

Keep It Simple, Stupid...

(And don't leave me "comments" lambasting me for
calling you "Stupid".  Some stupid guy has already done that!
If you're thinking about doing it, first look up "lambasting", then don't
Hey guys, I got to have a bit-o-fun, and from
the gains on Our Ports, I can afford some.)

Take time to remember a Great American...

Ronald Reagan would have been 99 years old, today.  He was the Greatest President of the 20th Century.  You Young Guns who read my posts may not remember, but he was the driving force of the Go-Go 80's; and Us "Ol' Geezers" lament the loss of Great Americans like him...

We miss you, Ron.
